In a major development for higher education in India, SEU – Georgian National University, one of Georgia’s top-ranked universities, is establishing its first-ever international campus in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. On August 5, 2025, a significant MoU (Memorandum of Understanding) was signed between SEU representatives and officials of the Visakhapatnam Metropolitan Region Development Authority (VMRDA).
As part of the agreement, SEU will occupy the third floor of the new VMRDA Ship Deck building on a lease basis. This campus will serve as the university’s operational base in India and will mark the first time SEU is expanding beyond Europe—a historic move in global education.
Dignitaries who attended the event included:
M.V. Pranav Gopal, Chairman, VMRDA
K.S. Vishwanathan, IAS, Commissioner, VMRDA
Chirag Vaghela, Co-Investor, SEU
JV Murthy, Director, Indian Operations, SEU
Vinny Pathro, Advisor, SEU
This latest move builds on an earlier MoU with the Andhra Pradesh Government, signed in the presence of Minister Nara Lokesh, involving a ₹1,300 crore investment and plans to create over 500 jobs in the state. Lokesh had emphasized that this initiative would “transform AP into a global education hub and equip students with international-level skills.”
SEU’s India campus will focus on higher education, AI, healthcare, business, and innovation, with faculty and student exchange programs, international research, and partnerships with global universities like MIT.
This collaboration is expected to bring global education standards to Indian students, while boosting the academic profile of Andhra Pradesh.
